It’s perfect for if you’re making a quick batch of cupcakes since you don’t need to refrigerate the frosting before using it. We love matcha, and this matcha buttercream frosting goes well with a wide variety of cakes. Try it on our Earl Grey Cupcakes with Matcha Buttercream!

What is Buttercream?

If you’ve never had buttercream, you are in for a treat! Compared to whipped cream frosting, it is a lot denser and richer in flavor because it uses butter instead of heavy cream whipped with sugar.

To make buttercream, all you have to do is cream butter and sugar together! It creates a smooth, creamy mixture that is perfect to use as frosting. Because it is dense and more solid than whipped cream, it can hold its shape very well which is what allows it to be piped into intricate patterns.

Along with the butter and sugar base, you can add all sorts of flavors to change the kind of buttercream you make. For plain vanilla buttercream, you just need to add a bit of vanilla extract and you’re done! The possibilities are endless, so try adjusting the flavor for whatever you like! We love matcha, and it’s a flavor that goes well with a lot of different kinds of cakes, so that’s why we chose to make matcha buttercream frosting.

Let’s get started on this quick and easy matcha buttercream frosting recipe!
