Hey everyone, it’s Kevin! Today I’m sharing a classic creamy coleslaw recipe that is just in time for grilling season!
This easy coleslaw recipe only takes 10 minutes to make and will be the perfect side for your summer barbecue! Eat it with some delicious burgers or as a topping for a pulled pork sandwich.
What’s In Coleslaw?
Classic coleslaw is usually comprised of just 3 ingredients: cabbage, carrots, and a dressing of your choice. If you want, you can just use green cabbage, but I like to add some color by mixing green and purple cabbage.
For the carrots, you can either do a thin julienne to cut them into matchstick sized pieces, or you can use the large holes on a box grater to get similarly shredded carrots. If you use the box grater, make sure to hold the carrot at about a 45° angle to the grate so your pieces aren’t too short.
Creamy Dressing
Of course, no coleslaw is complete without a creamy dressing. For this recipe, I decided to use a dressing with a mayonnaise base, although some other popular choices include buttermilk and sour cream. Mayonnaise will result in a sweeter, richer dressing, and people are more likely to already have mayonnaise at home than buttermilk or sour cream.
The dressing itself is very simple, using only 4 ingredients. Other than the mayonnaise, we just add vinegar to enhance the flavor of the mayonnaise, and some sugar and salt to round out the flavor. Mix them well until the sugar completely dissolves, and you have yourself a perfect coleslaw dressing.
